CORE JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                                                                                           

The Audio Visual Technician provides audio-visual services and systems support in classrooms and other learning spaces. Additionally, the incumbent sets up, operates, maintains, and repairs equipment used to enhance live events, such as microphones, video recorders, projectors, lighting, and sound mixing equipment. This employee also records meetings and presentations, operates spotlights, adjusts amplifiers, coordinates graphics used in displays, and provides technical support for teleconferences, webinars, and distance-learning classes. The Audio Visual Technician edits, copies, and stores media, tracks inventory of equipment, and orders supplies.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                           

  • Assists faculty and speakers with the use of audio-visual devices and presentation software.

  • Ensures that equipment used for presentations is correctly configured and operating properly.

  • Arranges for and supervises both periodic maintenance and repairs of all audio-visual equipment.

  • Records lectures and guest presentations.

  • Conducts basic video editing and posts recordings to University websites.

  • Provides group and individual training related to the use of University audio-visual equipment.

  • Documents and maintains procedures related to the use of all audio-visual equipment.

  • Keeps all audio-visual equipment areas neat and well ordered.

  • Ensures that audio-visual equipment is kept current and meets the changing audio-visual needs of the University.

  • Keeps abreast of current audio-visual technologies and practices.

  • Works with IT staff to maintain a listing of all University audio-visual equipment.

  • Coordinates with IT staff to ensure that proper levels of audio-visual consumables are kept in stock.

  • Recommends improvements to classrooms and other learning spaces.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

Associate Degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

  • Responsible for supporting spaces, systems, and events at the Frost School of Music Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots AV systems including computers, cameras, microphones, projectors, speakers, input/output, streaming, recording, and integration systems.

  • Responsibilities will include some support for concerts, festivals, meetings, and other events.

  • Coordinates schedules and coverage with other IT personnel Collaborates with faculty, production, and IT teams to recommend and install new AV equipment.

  • Keeps abreast of new AV technologies.

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                 

Education:

Associate’s degree in a technology, broadcast engineering, or media production field preferred

Experience:

  • Experience supporting audiovisual systems required.

  • Experience supporting live events is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Excellent collaboration skills required.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience required.
