Job Description

The Recreation Aide is responsible for assisting in the planning, coordination, and implementation of therapeutic recreational programs designed to meet the physical, mental, and psychosocial needs of nursing home residents. The goal is to promote residents’ well-being, encourage social interaction, and enhance their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in organizing and conducting group and individual activities (e.g., arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, religious services, social events).
• Encourage resident participation and monitor engagement during activities.
• Help plan monthly activity calendars in coordination with the Recreation Director.
• Set up and clean up activity areas before and after programs.
• Document resident attendance and participation and report any changes in behavior or condition to nursing staff.
• Assist with holiday and special event planning and decoration.
• Provide companionship and emotional support to residents.
• Ensure a safe environment during all recreational activities.
• Comply with all safety, infection control, and facility policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience in a long-term care or geriatric setting preferred.
• Compassionate, patient, and respectful toward the elderly and disabled.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and calendar planning.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 25lbs occasionally.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and push wheelchairs for extended periods.
• Visual and auditory ability to interact with residents and staff safely.

Work Schedule:

• Full-time
• Includes some evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
